Preparation is everything (IM 517)
No matter how much skill or talent we possess, preparation remains the most crucial element of our work. It is the silent engine of the long game. Proper preparation does more than just organize our tasks; it enhances our confidence and significantly boosts our results.
For our work ethic to be effective, our preparation must be practical. This is not about abstract planning but about the deliberate strengthening of our knowledge, skills, and abilities. Without this foundation, the process stalls and little can be achieved. We must view preparation as the active phase of our execution, not a separate delay.
It even takes preparation to maintain what we have already built. We are far more likely to lose our previous achievements if we stop preparing for the next challenge. In this sense, preparation is everything. It is the discipline that allows us to keep our position in the arena while constantly evolving our craft. By staying prepared, we ensure that our endurance is backed by the structural integrity needed to win.
