Change your way (IM 556)

If you want different results, you cannot keep following the same way that brought you here. Your current way has already led you to this situation.

If you want things to change or want life to move in a better direction, look at those who have already reached where you want to go. Take their approach as guidance, learn from their advice, and experiment with it in your own life.

It may not work in exactly the same way for you, but it will help you find a better way forward. Sometimes progress begins when we stop insisting on our old way and become willing to learn a new one.

We're all surrounded...(IM 555)

We're all surrounded by troubles throughout our lifetime. Someone has an upcoming exams, someone is about to have divorce and someone about to breakup, someone broke their toe and someone just had an accident. We have our own fear, grief, and troubles.

And it's inevitable.

But we all have a unique one. So, there isn't a single solution for everyone.

But currently we are facing a common problem. So, with care and generosity and humility, we can find possibility and hope for the better tomorrow.

A journey with no ends (IM 554)

It has been a long journey with lots of struggle and breakthrough.

Yes, consistency matters. But how much?

Is it the only thing that matters? For the sake of consistency only, getting the things done is not wise enough.

It must have something more.

More determination, more hard-work, more sacrifices, more meaning; it’s still a long journey…and with no end.

Should we believe our every thought? (IM 553)

Human brain is the manufacturer of thoughts. These thoughts will have no meaning unless we give it a meaning.

Some of the thoughts are necessary but most of them are unnecessary.

We should not be blinded by the thoughts generated from ourselves. We got to be aware that the thoughts come and go depending on the situation.

When we start believing each and every thoughts manufactured by our brain, we get stuck on execution of the useless thoughts that has no real meaning to our life.

So, don’t believe every thoughts because it’s worth it

Changing our stories (IM 552)

Disempowering story never leads to empowering results.

We got to change our stories of limitation to the stories of empowerment in order to customize our future.

Stories control our emotions and emotions changes our state of being that drive all of our actions and behavior. So success stories tends to bring successful results.

Failure is obvious with the story of limitation.

Seeking attention? (IM 551)

Everybody lives for it…

There is nothing wrong with seeking attention for your business or venture because it is the asset in that case. But the problem is with the personal attention.

When you are constantly seeking or yearning for personal attention, it seems like you are mercy of others.

It’s impossible to be truly happy and successful when you are seeking for attention because it is like a drug which never satisfies you. And begging people for approval will never let you become happy and successful.

Capitalism today (IM #550)

Today, we live in the world where everyone follows the same rules and understands the same language of profit making. Recently, I was reading a book "Capitalism Alone" by Branko Milanovic, where he pictures how capitalists have ruled the world in terms of politics, economics, finance and power. And it makes a lot of sense.

Let's dissect this capitalism:

Today, we all live in the world which follows Liberal Meritocratic Capitalism. It addresses how goods and services are produced and exchanged, how they are distributed and how is its social mobility. They early 21st century, after the tech boom, this capitalism took power in America and is spreading all around the world.

To clearly understand this, let's go back to the history of capitalism.

Before 1914, rich people were capitalists and their source of income was capital and poor people were labor and their source of income was a wage. Don't get me wrong, capital and labor income are completely different. Capital income is the income obtained as a interest of capital or dividend of stock, or royalties or anything that multiplies while the labor income is just the trade of time for money. So before early 19th century, Capitalist receive no income from labor and labor receive no income from capital, which hence resulted in high income inequality. This era was a classical capitalism era for which most of us  say the era when rich became more richer and poor became more poorer.

But today, we think we have become wise. With human rights being well respected and gender inequality no longer exists (except for some cases or even theoretically), we respect all kind of jobs resulting to liberal system. Today capitalists also work as a labor and labor also make capital income. For an instance, a highly paid (labor income) engineer can make capital be investing in stock markets or real estate or can even start his own private firm (capital income). and a manager of the company also work with his/her employees.

Based on this we think, we made a lot of improvement and we can reduce the income inequality. But the sad truth is that it's not. On both sides, it's is increasing with same proportion making the inequality constant.

But hey, there is a positive sign, many research reveals that before 1914, 70% of the British wealth was accumulated by top 1% but now it's accumulated by around 20%.

Lesson from "The Millionaire Next Door" (IM 549)

Thomas J. Stanley, in his book " The Millionaire Next Door: The Surprising Secrets of America's Wealthy", identifies and reveals the seven common traits that shows up again and again among those American who accumulate prodigious amount of wealth.

Defining three terms Prodigious Accumulator of Wealth (PAW), Under Accumulator of Wealth (UAW) and Average Accumulator of Wealth (AAW), Stanley highlights the financial judgement and characteristics of all three types of individual. He clearly states that most of the true wealthy in this country don't live in Beverly Hills or Park-Avenue; they live right next door. They live UAW life but are actually PAWs.

According to Stanley, the seven common denominators of PAWs are:

They live well below their means: PAWs are always frugal and they earn to build wealth while UAWs earn to spend and maintain their high living standards. PAWs become millionaire by budgeting and controlling expenses. They know how to minimize taxable/realized income and maximize unrealized income.
They allocate time, energy and money efficiently in building their wealth: PAWs focus of playing great defense of wealth. They know what it takes to build wealth and so they invest their time, energy and money in it.
They believe "Financial Independence > Social Status": PAWs know that they are not what they drive. They live in middle class neighbor, drive normal cars because they know that they are playing long-term, not short-term. They acknowledge that building wealth is not something that will change lifestyle.
Their parents didn't provide economic care: PAWs' parents don't provide them with economic/cash benefits. Stanley's research also claims that 6 out of 10 millionaires didn't receive any economic care from their parents. His research also shows that the more dollar adult children receive, the fewer dollar they accumulate, while those who are given fewer dollars accumulate more.
Their adult children are economically self-sufficient: PAWs teach their children how to fish, they don't do glucose feeding. They teach them how to struggle and succeed in whatever they do. On the other hand, UAWs "weaken the weak", by supporting them that makes them dependent throughout their entire life.
They are proficient in targeting market opportunities: They millionaires are very proficient in seeing the opportunities. They take their failure as the opportunity to learn.
They chose right niche: They are very good in finding the right occupation. They focus on their strength and work on it to make it even more stronger.

An economic suicide (IM 548)

America, the powerhouse of economy is committing suicide as we are witnessing the largest economic shock in the history of human kind. It's faster, bigger and more devastating than any world wars. Last week the unemployment skyrocketed to about 7 million which is a record high.

Though the stimulus bill was passed by the Congress, it's not sufficient to support the economy and help businesses. According to some research, the portion of the stimulus meant to support business is enough to keep the economy going for just one week.  It's obvious. Just think about it. The economy of America is about 20 trillion dollar every year. The stimulus bill can just to pacify the crisis for some time which is the reason people are beginning to panic.

This pandemic will surely last months but the bill passed to keep economy going lasted just a week which already passed. Not only small business are experiencing  a dead end but also the large corporation are going through the tough time. We will see many big companies going bankrupt this year including oils, Airlines and many others.

Coronavirus is the drug killing the modern economy and nobody knows the antidote. It has attacked the heart of economy making them commit suicide.

“Debt”, “credit”, “money”, and “finance”: these four social construct come into play during this crisis. But how will the America react to it before it's too late?

Semiotics: A face-mask (IM 547)

Semiotics is the study of sign process, which is any form of activity, conduct, or any process that involves signs, including the production of meaning. It  is an investigation into how meaning is created and how meaning is communicated.

Moreover, it interprets the relationship between sign, object and meaning. Lets take current example, that is, the face masks. It's not just the face mask to protect ourselves from getting coronavirus. Face-mask (object) is the "sign" to create a ripple among the people to make them aware of the pandemic and to prevent other people from infection (meaning).

Any sign is incomplete without and object and its meaning...
