Discovering principles (IM#285)

Everything we encounter carries a lesson, whether the result feels good or bad.

When something works in our favor, we usually call it a good decision and feel proud of it. When something goes wrong, we call it a bad decision and feel disappointed or overwhelmed. That is a natural reaction, but it is often too shallow. The result alone is not the full story.

Every decision reveals something. Success shows us what was useful, and failure shows us what needs to be understood better. Both can teach us principles that make future decisions wiser and more grounded.

If we reflect properly, even painful results become useful. Instead of only judging outcomes emotionally, we can ask what they are trying to teach us. That is how experience becomes wisdom.
