Science vs art (IM 765)

Science deals with facts while the art is imaginary. The real thing that exists is a science. Art is something abstract.

Art can be behavioral while the science is intellectual. Never confuse these two.

They are different. But both are important in their own way. The combination of both is necessary for innovation. Let's take an example of Apple. The I-phone is based on technology and has several tech features which is science, but its design is an art that has made it unique among others in the market.

Time to disembark (IM 764)

In chapter three of Meditations, Marcus Aurelius wrote:

Hippocrates cured many illness- and then fell ill and died himself. The Chaldeans predicted death of many others; in due course their own hour arrived. Alexander, Pompey, Caesar-who utterly destroyed so many cities, cut down so many thousand foot and horse in battle-they too departed  their life.

Heraclitus often told us the world would end in fire. But it was moisture that carried him off; he died smeared with cowshit. Democritus was killed by ordinary vermin, Socrates by human mind.

AND?

You boarded, you set sail, you have made the passage...

It's time to disembark...

People, technology, and money (IM 763)

These three things make anything possible. It's beginning of every success stories.

If we have a right people and money, then we can create technology which leads to many innovations. With right people and right technology, we can attract funding which is necessary for pitching up any startups.

The tragic thing is people with a passionate mind is necessary to make anything happen. It's crucial.

It is impossible to make things happen with just technology and money and without persistent and passionate human mind.

Listen To The Mustn’ts (IM 762)

Listen To The Mustn’ts :

Listen to the MUSTN’TS, child,

Listen to the DON’TS.

Listen to the SHOULDN’TS, The IMPOSSIBLES, the WON’TS.

Listen to the NEVER HAVES

Then lost close to me...

Anything can happen, child.

ANYTHING can be.

-Shel Silverstein

A passionate mind (IM 761)

I'm intrigued by the ability of the single mind to change the entire world. From Marcus Aurelius to Thomas Edison to Mahatma Gandhi to present day successful entrepreneurs, they all have changed the entire world in some way. The started with no money or technology  but with passion and perseverance.

There is nothing more powerful in your life than a cause you would willingly die for, whether it is your family or a belief you hold fundamental to your existence or even your goal to change the world for something better.

A passionate mind is unstoppable. It can achieve anything that it wants...

Choose "both" (IM 760)

We are taught to choose one option when we are given a choice. This has been true in most of us.

We are told to “Go to school or start a company".

But why should we choose one of them? Why can't we take the both?

Elon Musk is running Tesla and SpaceX; he’s also chairman of SolarCity. Steve Jobs did the same with Apple and Pixar. Branson’s Virgin Group has started over 300 Virgin companies and built eight different billion-dollar companies in eight different industries.

Multiple projects means multiple talents and opportunity to enhance multiple skills, knowledge and abilities, which in turn leads to multiple successes.

Peter Diamandis: Rules For Building A Successful Business (IM 559)

Peter Diamandis  has been named one of “The World’s 50 Greatest Leaders” by Fortune magazine. He is the founder and executive chairman of the XPRIZE Foundation, which leads the world in designing and operating large-scale incentive competitions. He is also the executive founder of Singularity University, a graduate-level Silicon Valley institution that counsels the world's leaders on exponentially growing technologies. As an entrepreneur, Diamandis has started over 20 companies in the areas of longevity, space, venture capital and education. He is the cofounder and vice chairman of Celularity, Inc., a cellular therapeutics company, and the cofounder of BOLD Capital Partners, a venture fund with $250M investing in exponential technologies.

Some of his rules for building a succefull business are:

Rule #1: When given a choice…take both!
Rule #2: “No” simply means begin again at one level higher.
Rule #3: Patience is a virtue, but persistence is a blessing.
Rule #4: The squeaky wheel gets replaced.
Rule #5: The best way to predict the future is to create it yourself.
Rule #6: An expert opinion is not the final word.
Rule #7: Most breakthroughs begin as a crazy idea.
Rule #8. If it were easy, it would have been done already.
Rule #9: The world’s most precious resource is a passionate mind.

Simple vs. Easy (IM 758)

There is a difference between easy and simple. All problems are not easy but you can take it and solve it with simplicity.

Easy or difficult is a situation. They are inevitable. We can’t deny or avoid it just like we can’t deny the fact.

But simplicity is a choice. Its our choice to solve any problem in a simple way as possible

Stoic moments (IM 757)

Stoicism is not the philosophy for school. It's a philosophy for life. Courage, Self-discipline, Justice and Wisdom. It's about putting these ideas into action. Throw away your books, Marcus Aurelius once said. "Don't talk about what a good man is like; be one."

The story of Marcus Aurelius, Theodore Roosevelt, John Lewis, Michael Jordan, Cato; the younger, Porcia Cato, Jackie Robinson, all displayed the stoic moments in their life that can't be forgotten.  They all displayed courage, wisdom, temperance, and  virtue.

Power of imagination (IM 756)

Somebody said it so beautifully- “You can’t become what you can’t see.” So we should see our-self in the position we want to be before we reach there.

Stretching the imagination means creating the powerful belief system. It is visualizing oneself to optimum limit of the self desire.

It is to ask our-self to picture our dream life even though we exist completely different in reality. It is to visualize our dream project before we get started. Brainstorming is different thing (even though it is needed) but stretching our imagination is what makes our dreams and projects alive for long term.

Stretching the imagination is the key for success.
