Mapping the present with the future. (IM 715)

Everyone has the weakness and that weakness makes us anxious most of the time. This might take place when you are in a meeting with boss or date with your partner. This weakness might make you nervous when you are presenting in a public or expressing your ideas.

There is a way to overcome this issue and  I hope this is effective and I'm going to apply it in my real life

It is to consider that every moment happening now will serve as a purpose for the future plans and goals. Every situation you encounter is a ladder to the future you.

This gives us the hope that everything happening now is a reason. The reason is known later in life and we realize that everything happening now is in some way connected to our future purpose. So if we are thinking of giving up on something or trying to avoid an obstacle and take easy way then we got to ask ourselves:- "How will affect my future goals?" "Will this serve my future purpose?"

Add I believe the answers to these question will obviously change our decision and action.

Kindness is undefeated? (IM 714)

Doing right thing is always right and being kind is ROI positive. It all comes to karma.

We have been told since long time that we get what we give. Spreading kindness is the way to receive kindness. And it is necessary for everything. Kindness is the main source and everything else are just by-product.

So, kindness is undefeated...

Our 'two' versions (IM 713)

We all have two version of ourselves. One is the logical and conscious us and other one is the emotional and sub-conscious us. These ‘two us’ fights to control us every time.

Sometimes conscious us wins and sometimes the unconscious one.

The more important thing is to make sure to use proper us as needed and as per the situation in proper time

Perspectives (IM 712)

The same event can shape two people in completely different ways. What changes is not always the event itself, but the perspective brought to it. A difficulty can become a burden, or it can become a lesson. A setback can feel like proof of defeat, or it can become a reason to grow stronger. The circumstance may be the same, but its meaning changes with the mind that receives it.

This is why perspective matters so deeply. We often assume that reality alone determines how we feel, but in many cases it is our interpretation that gives reality its emotional weight. Two people can face the same loss, failure, or disappointment and walk away with entirely different conclusions about life, themselves, and the future.

That does not mean pain is unreal or that every hardship should be romanticized. It means that perspective remains one of the few places where we still have influence. We may not control what happens, but we still have some control over what we allow it to become inside us. That inner interpretation shapes our response, and our response shapes what comes next.

So when life brings consequences, challenges, or change, it is worth asking: how am I choosing to see this? Perspective does not erase reality, but it changes the way reality lives within us. And in many cases, that difference changes everything.

Consciousness and uncertainty (IM 711)

Consciousness is being aware of present through which living occur.  It’s the primary purpose of living. More precisely, the primary purpose of living is to allow the consciousness to flow into what we do. Thinking about the past and making plans about the future isn’t consciousness and will not make us conscious.

Being conscious means being aware that every thoughts are not a fact or truth. Every thoughts is a perceptive and every perspective implies limitation on something, which is not the fact/truth.

Consciousness does not involve future. Being comfortable with this uncertainty brings infinite possibilities along the way. It opens infinite number of doors of opportunity. When we become certain of something, we only go for that thing and become able (or unable) to attract it. When we’re able to attract it, our insatiable hunger doesn’t get satisfied because we are voracious being and nothing appease us.

But as we have already fixed our mind to something, which didn’t gave us the level of fulfillment (that we’ll never attain) we wanted, our possibilities starts to seize and life start to seem like a burden.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to be certain of something. But being certain to something and also being comfortable with uncertainty is the level of consciousness we all need to have a jovial and fulfilled life.

Living well vs doing well (IM 710)

“From all your herds, a cup or two of milk,
From all your granaries, a loaf of bread,
In all your palace, only half a bed:
Can man use more? And do you own the rest?”

— Ancient Sanskrit poem

There is a difference between living well and doing well.

Very many people spend money in ways quite different from those that their natural tastes would enjoin, merely because the respect of their neighbors depends upon their possession of a good car and their ability to give good dinners. As a matter of fact, any man who can obviously afford a car but genuinely prefers travels or a good library will in the end be much more respected than if he behaved exactly like everyone else.”
— Bertrand Russell, The Conquest of Happiness

Living well comes by living simple as simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

"On the shortness of life" (IM709)

It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it.

-Seneca

Seneca on his moral essay, "

On the Shortness of Life

", explains that we all fear death, but life is long if you know how to use it.

Seneca

urges us to examine the problems that result in life seeming to pass by too quickly, such as ambition, giving all our time to others.

“You live as if you were destined to live forever, no thought of your frailty ever enters your head, of how much time has already gone by you take no heed. You squander time as if you drew from a full and abundant supply, though all the while that day which you bestow on some person or thing is perhaps your last.”

He argues that we have truly lived only a short time because our lives were filled with business and stress. How do we regain our time back? It is by studying philosophy, working towards meaningful goals, and not putting off the enjoyment of life.

The most important lesson from Seneca is that we should value our time and stop wasting it. Of course, we all know that. But how many of are are dead serious about it. I suppose very few.
“The part of life we really live is small. For all the rest of existence is not life, but merely time.”

-Seneca

Value learning over everything (IM 708)

The simple law of human psychology is that our thoughts will revolve around what we value the most. If it's a money then we tend to choose a place that offers the big paycheck.

Inevitably, in such places, we focus on proving ourselves to other people, which creates a lot of pressure. In such places, we focus on pleasing and impressing the right people so that we keep getting the paycheck. It will be too costly to make a mistake and learn from them in such situation and as a result we we seek an easy and conservative approach. And as we progress in life, we will become addicted to the fat paycheck and it will determine where we go, how we think, and what we do. Eventually we get trap in this vicious circle.

Instead, if we value learning above everything else, the picture will be completely different. It will lead us to the right choices. We will opt for the situation that will give us the most opportunities to learn, particularly with hands-on work. We will choose a place that has people and mentors who can inspire and teach us. As a result of valuing learning above everything else, we will expand our horizon and creativity and everything else (including money) will eventually come to us.

Discovering kindness (IM 707)

One of the important nature people are lacking these days is 'kindness'. There is a beautiful poem, named "Kindness" written by Palestinian-American Naomi Shihab Nye, which I went through this morning. It’s from Naomi’s short collection, Words Under Words.

I'm not a "poet", not do I really get "poetry". I hope you will pass it to other people who need it.

Kindness

Before you know what kindness really is

you must lose things,

feel the future dissolve in a moment

like salt in a weakened broth.

What you held in your hand,

what you counted and carefully saved,

all this must go so you know

how desolate the landscape can be

between the regions of kindness.

How you ride and ride

thinking the bus will never stop,

the passengers eating maize and chicken

will stare out the window forever.

Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness,

you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho

lies dead by the side of the road.

You must see how this could be you,

how he too was someone

who journeyed through the night with plans

and the simple breath that kept him alive.

Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside,

you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing.

You must wake up with sorrow.

You must speak to it till your voice

catches the thread of all sorrows

and you see the size of the cloth.

Then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore,

only kindness that ties your shoes

and sends you out into the day to mail letters and

purchase bread,

only kindness that raises its head

from the crowd of the world to say

it is I you have been looking for,

and then goes with you everywhere

like a shadow or a friend.

'Success' is in the eye of beholder (IM 706)

'Success' is in the eye of beholder...

Success for student is to get a good grades.

Success for some people is to graduate a college.

Success for some people is to get a good paying job.

Success for some people is to hit a home run.

Success for some is to win a Grand Slam.

Success for some is to attract attention.

Success for some people is to find peace in present.

Success for some people is to get appreciation from the boss.

Success for some people is to publish their first book.

Success for some people is to launch their product.

Success for some people is to have time to their family.

Success for some people is to add value to other people.

Success for some people is to win a Champions League.

Success for some people is to fly a private jet.

And many more....

There are many versions of success. What kind of success are we looking for?
