On Journaling (IM 976)

“Writing is medicine. It is an appropriate antidote to injury. It is an appropriate companion for any difficult change.” – Julia Cameron

For me, journaling has been the art of putting my things in order and making a habit. Starting with the lessons to be learned in early morning. I put myself in the journal.

As Tim Ferriss says, “I don’t journal to ‘be productive.’ I don’t do it to find great ideas or to put down prose I can later publish. The pages aren’t intended for anyone but me. It’s the most cost-effective therapy I’ve ever found.” Yes, journaling is just expressing the thoughts and casing it in the pages.

How I journal?

First, early in the morning I start with a quote on Wisdom or Power or Virtue or Logos or Strength or Will or Action..... The goal is to be in close with the quotes for the whole day. This is my first part of the journaling.

The rest part starts before going to bed. It has two section. On the first section, I journal about all the things that I did during the day, whether it be productive or un-productive.

At the last section, I write One thing that I learned during the day.

Here are the samples of my journal:

“Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.” – Louis L’Amour

A New Decision (IM 975)

Today, I turned 25 and I am making a new decision of my life.  It was back in September 2018 I started this site with simple goal of sharing the ideas learned in the process.

And this is the 975th post in this site. From the beginning, my goal was not to make other people read but was just to inspire myself as I believe inspiration and motivation comes from within.

I remember I was in the sophomore year when I started this and now that I have graduated college its time to place things in order. This journey was worth taking and will always be the part of my story and my life.

The post in this site will now be not that frequent like it used to be. I've decided to write a journal everyday.

Paper, I think, is more powerful than people.

“Keeping a journal is the veriest pastime in the world, and the pleasantest…Only those rare natures that are made up of pluck, endurance, devotion to duty for duty’s sake, and invincible determination, may hope to venture upon so tremendous an enterprise as the keeping of a journal.” — Mark Twain

This journal will be a private book is not for everyone but me. Setting up a habit has been a way of life for me. So, I'm introducing this new habit to myself.

The Power Of Invisible (IM 974)

The root creates the fruit.

The fruit from the tree depends on the root. Mango root will give a mango fruit and same goes for all. The roots are invisible but its output depends on it.

The invisibles are more powerful than the visible.

In real life, the roots are our inputs and fruits are the outputs.

The problem is we live strictly in the visible world. We don’t realize that to change the visible stuffs, we got to change the invisible first.
We got to change the seeds to get different fruits.
And the invisible stuffs, to change, are within ourselves.

Self-Reverse-Splitting (IM 973)

“Reverse splitting” is a term very familiar to the investors. When the price of the stock goes down, the company decides to decrease the number of shares by a specific ratio maintaining the total equity unchanged. Recently, because of the crude oil crash, a lot of crude oil ETFs were reverse split.

We can use this approach in practice in our daily life.

But how?

Whenever we get overwhelmed or whenever we encounter a vulnerable situation, we can reverse engineer the situation and set the priorities, which will decease the amount of stuff to be done. This allows to focus on the important thing, which increases the effectiveness and ultimately enhances the performance level.

Three Characteristics Of Good Strategy (IM 972)

They are:

Focus, Divergence and Compelling Tagline.

For any industry these three strategy are really important to be sustainable, profitable and innovative.

Focus of the company should be clear and precise so that it can move forward. When a company's value lacks focus, its cost structure will tend to be high and its business model become complex in implementation and execution.

There must be difference between the product of the competitors which is called divergence. Divergence not only in product but in many aspects including companies culture and core values. When a company lacks divergence, its strategy is a me-too, with no reason to stand apart in the market place.

A compelling tagline is a way to communicate with the customers. It is what customers see about the company. When a company lacks compelling tagline, it is likely to be internally driven with no great commercial potential.

These three characteristics are crucial for long-term growth of a company.

A New Value Curve (IM 971)

The book, Blue Ocean Strategy suggested four strategy for the industry to be in a blue ocean by escaping the red ocean. (The difference between red and blue ocean is here)

Reduce: What factors should be reduced well below the industry's standard?

Eliminate: What factors from the industry should be eliminated?

Raise: What factors should be raised will above the industry's standard?

Create: What factors should be created that the industry has never offered?

Value Innovation (IM 970)

According to the writers of book Blue Ocean strategy, neither the company nor the industry is best way to analyze the way of getting into a blue ocean. The believed strategic move is the right unit of analysis for explaining the creation of blue ocean and high sustainable performance.

Value Innovation is the cornerstone of Blue Ocean Strategy. In value innovation, you focus on making the competition irrelevant by creating a loop for buyers and your company, thereby opening up new and uncontested market space.

This strategy gives equal emphasis on Value and Innovation which is very important because one without the other does not make for the blue ocean market space.

Value without innovation is more focused on value creation which is not sufficient to make you stand out in marketplace. Innovation without value tends to be more technology driven and lacks the value.

New Market Space (IM 969)

I recently came up with this word "Value Innovation" from a book "Blue Ocean Strategy" written by W.Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne.

This book divides the market space into two parts, namely, Red Ocean and Blue Ocean. The Red Ocean is the market space we all are familiar to, where the competition exist. It is where the boundaries are defined and the companies try to outperform their rivals.

Blue Ocean is the new type of market space where the competition is irrelevant and consists of untapped market space, demand creation and the opportunity for high profit and sustainable growth.

So how to get into Blue Ocean market space?

Rest is in Next Article.

These Three Things Can Make Anything Possible (IM 968)

People, Technology and Money....

It’s beginning of every success stories.

If we have a right people and money, then we can create technology which leads to many innovations. With right people and right technology, we can attract funding which is necessary for pitching up any startups.

The tragic thing is people with a passionate mind is necessary to make anything happen. It’s crucial.

It is impossible to make things happen with just technology and money and without persistent and passionate human mind.

Returns Of Investment (IM 967)

Return Of Investment (ROI) can’t always be measured in money. We think that our return is directly proportional to the investment we make. But ROI is negative most of the time. This negative ROI is killing many small startups.

What if instead of measuring return in money we start to measure its return on improvement? What if we measure ourselves based on what we and our organization were/was before?

We actually can…

But to go that way, we must invest on those things that can bring that return. We must sell our quality than the quantity. We must add value than adding new stores and franchise. We must sell our mission than our products. This will be the strategy for greatest ROI of all time.
