The Greatest Irony (IM 888)

“True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not.”

There is a greatest irony when it come to time and the irony remains irony until we completely understand it. We think that time is ours to waste. We often say "we have some hours to kill before we go somewhere." But, the reality is time is the one that's killing us.

We think we are killing our time by doing this and that but actually it is the time that is killing us. Just like Seneca said, “This is our big mistake: to think we look forward to death. Most of death is already gone. Whatever time has passed is owned by death.”
