Steps for change (IM#190)
Change does not happen by accident. It usually begins when we become aware that something in us or in our life needs to shift. If we cannot see the pattern, the habit, or the problem clearly, then real change is difficult to begin.
The first step is awareness. We have to recognize what exists before we can change it. The second step is understanding. It is not enough to notice a habit or a situation; we also need to understand where it comes from and why it continues. Without that, we often repeat the same pattern in a different form.
Then comes disassociation. We have to loosen our attachment to old mindsets, old failures, and old identities. If we keep defining ourselves by what has already weakened us, change remains shallow. Growth requires some distance from the old story.
Finally, there is execution. New principles, new habits, new standards, and new ways of thinking only matter when they are practiced. Change becomes real only when it enters action.
So the process is simple, even if it is not easy: awareness, understanding, disassociation, and execution. That is how change begins to take form.
